The story of the Montford Point Marines is one of courage, resiliency and triumph. As the first African Americans to serve in the Marine Corps, Montford Point Marines aspired to the same title as any other recruits; they were tested and selected —demonstrating uncommon courage throughout – with the same or more stringent standards than any Marine who came before. In achieving the title Marine, they paved the way for successive generations of African American Marines who have served with honor and distinction, and left an indelible impact on the Corps.
